Usually, when people mentioned the country of Australia, they think of Sydney. But for some people, that isn’t even the first thing that comes to mind. Because Melbourne is actually a city that rivals Sydney in a lot of ways.
Sure, Sydney has a lot of tourist attractions, but Melbourne is a hip and metropolitan city that is filled with diversity, unique characters, luscious wildlife, and so much more. And to help you realize that, here are three of the best things to do in Melbourne.
#1 Drink the best coffee.
There is no doubt about it, Melbourne is the city go to when you need your coffee fix. It’s been voted as the best city that houses the best coffee, even beating cities like Rome and Vienna.
The people here are even really proud of their caffeine heritage, so don’t try to ask them out for cheap coffee. And why would you, when at around almost every corner is a cafe just waiting to be visited!
So the very first thing you should do when you visit Melbourne is trying their coffee. But, I have a feeling you already have thanks to a green mermaid that’s been seen across the globe.
#2 Rock out.
Though Melbourne is known for its great coffee, what it’s not known for, and criminally so, is its passion for live music. Particularly, rock music!
Not a lot of people know this, but at almost every street corner is a cafe, and also a live band playing their own songs for people to listen to. Rock music is a staple for this city, so make sure to stay and listen to one or two bands during your stay, trust me, it’s worth it!
Some pretty common places to find said bands are the Corner Hotel, the Evelyn Hotel, the Ding-Dong Lounge, and the Palais Theater. So you really will be hearing a lot of rock everywhere you go!
#3 Take a river cruise.
There’s no better way to learn about a city than to take a tour! And better yet, a river cruise! And the city of Melbourne is no different. To find the nearest cruise you can get, and take it.
The main body of water you’ll be cruising through is probably the Yarra River, which is a river that separates the Melbourne city center from the main city itself. There are a lot of operators to take you on a cruise, so don’t worry about being left out.
And there’s more than one way to get across this river too. Because here you can also go kayaking in order to get across. It’s a fun and educational way to tour the city, isn’t it?
Melbourne is a city of taste and etiquette. And though that is the case, it also remains true to its Aussie roots with all the adventures and fun you can have here. So grab a cruise along Yarra River, listen to the local band, and sip on the best coffee in the world. There is no life greater than that!…
